Manufactured housing is often at the center of policy debates around housing affordability, zoning, rent control, and land-use regulations, and is also associated with outdated stereotypes of “mobile homes” or low-quality construction. Changing the narrative to reflect today’s affordable, modern, energyefficient and well-designed homes required intentional messaging to counter misinformation and educate government officials, the media and consumers. Front Porch worked with MHI leadership to position manufactured housing as a solution to the affordable housing crisis, expanding homeownership and spotlighting housing innovation through targeted media outreach and major events like sponsorship of HUD’s Innovative Housing Showcase. Results include media stories in The New York Times, The Builder’s Daily, HousingWire, USA Today, Nerd Wallet, and The Washington Post in addition to videos of government officials touring manufactured homes and key industry awards.
